Laser Hair Removal
Call for pricing
When body hair is excessive, darker or coarser than you would prefer, or appears
in places that make you feel uncomfortable, it’s time to reconsider your hair
removal options. Older remedies for unwanted hair include plucking, shaving,
waxing, electrolysis or chemical depilatories. Some of these are downright
painful, others are extremely messy, and all offer only temporary solutions to
your frustration.
A Very Popular Choice – More Effective & Long Lasting
Laser hair removal is considered a
far more
effective solution for unwanted hair with
long lasting
results, and has gained in popularity since first introduced in
the late 1990s. In fact, the American Society of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgeons
estimates that in 2008 over 1.3 million laser hair removal procedures were
performed in the United States alone – making
laser hair
removal the #1 aesthetic laser procedure and second only to Botox.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: How does Laser Hair Removal work?
A: A very intense bean of light is passed through the skin at the hair root.
The dark hair becomes very hot and destroys the cells that produce the hair.
Q: Is the treatment safe?
A: The treatment is approved by the FDA, who have deemed it safe. The light
produced by the laser is in the infrared end of the light spectrum as opposed to
the ultraviolet end. This type of light is non-carcinogenic (non-cancer
causing). Lasers have been used in the medical profession for more than 10
years and no long-term side effects have been reported.
Q: Does the treatment hurt?
A: Everyone’s pain threshold is different. As treatment settings vary according
to individual skin and hair types, so do the levels of discomfort. Most
individuals describe the treatment as a series of slight pin pricks or rubber
band snaps to the skin. A numbing cream can be applied to the area prior to
treatment.
Q: Who does the treatments?
A: All of our treatments are done by fully qualified clinical aestheticians who
have been certified in laser hair reduction.
Q: How many treatments will I need?
A: On average, we recommend 6 sessions for optimal results. Hair grows in
cycles. The laser or pulsed light only affects hair when it is in its early
growth phase. At any time, some hair follicles are dormant. Repeated sessions
are necessary to treat these follicles when they re-enter the growth phase.
Q: How long does each treatment take?
A: This depends on the size of the area you are having treated and you will be
advised during your consultation. On average, treatments last 30 minutes to an
hour.
Q: Does the laser treat blonde or gray hair?
A: Very blonde and gray hair is not suitable for laser treatment because the
laser light can only see dark pigment. Therefore the hair must be dark brown or
black to be treated by a laser.
Q: Is there anything I should avoid before and during a series of treatments?
A: A suntan can put your skin at risk and will make the laser treatment less
effective. We recommend avoiding the sun and tanning beds. Do not wax or pluck
at least two weeks prior to treatment. Do not shave within 48 hours of
treatment. Do not apply aggravating creams to the skin before or during the
course of treatment. This includes glycolic acid (AHA creams) and Retin-A or
tretinoin cream. Also be sure to tell us if you have been taking any medication
such as accutane for any period in the year before treatment.
